005. When Peeta was an old man, he became very ill. Although Katniss tried to heal him as she had in the cave all those years ago, it soon became obvious there was nothing she, or anyone else, could do. As she sat by his bedside, she could hide her fears no more, and asked Peeta, “How will I survive without you?” He smiled at her. “That’s easy. Think of the two children you have been blessed with. Think of your granddaughter, who looks so much like Prim. Think of all the people who love you, Katniss, and that thought will get you through.” Katniss was so choked up she couldn’t speak, but she knew she didn’t have to. The silence said it all. Peeta gripped her hand tighter. “Stay with me,” ordered. As Katniss felt his hold on her go limp, she whispered, “Always”.

013. The man who held the gun to Katniss’ head in District 2 was completely prepared to shoot. That was until Katniss started talking, and he realised that he could never pull the trigger. Because the way the girl talked with such passion behind her words reminded her of his daughter. His little girl, who was taken from him much too young, Clove.
